17 Aug VOLUNTEER OF THE YEAR AWARD
The Wimmera Regional Sports Assembly’s Valued Volunteer of the Year Award is now open for nominations.
Over 1.5 million adults are involved as volunteers in Australian sport and recreation. This contribution is worth $2 billion annually and represents 165 million hours per year to running sport and recreation clubs and in rural areas this assistance is vital to maintain our community sporting clubs.
Volunteers are a most valuable resource and to highlight their contribution to sport and recreation in this region all clubs are eligible to nominate one of their long serving volunteers for the “Valued Volunteer of the Year Award”. This award is presented annually at the Sports Assembly’s Annual General Meeting to be held this year on Tuesday September 20 at the Horsham Sports and Community Club.
Previous winners read like the who’s who of Wimmera volunteers and include such names as Suzi James (Tri State Games), Lyn Gunning (RDA), Ian Jackson (Football), Peter Miller (Football), Ian Taylor (Shooting), Willie Hanson (Football), Jeff Pekin (Table Tennis), Max Burke (Football Training), Helen Short (Netball), Maurie Wade (Basketball, Cricket), Shurlee Skiller (Netball), Bill Taylor (Natimuk Community Clubs), Maurie Dumesny (Cricket), Sylvia Penny (Greyhound Racing) and Murray and Debbie Hart (jointly) for their long serving assistance to the sporting clubs of Stawell. Nominations are welcome at any time with nomination forms available from the offices of the Assembly or on our website at www.wrsa.org.au, and close on Wednesday September 14. All nominees are invited to attend the function and will be presented with a framed recognition certificate.
