Haven Tennis Club set to host Tennis Victoria Regional Team Event
After a six year hiatus, the Wimmera Region will once again play host to a state tennis event.
The Haven Tennis Club in Horsham will welcome players from Victoria’s 11 country regions as they compete for the 2016 John Fitzgerald Cup next weekend.
The 13/u event is the seventh on the Tennis Victoria Regional Team Event calendar.
“The Haven Tennis Club is very excited about hosting our first ever regional team event and are looking forward to showcasing our facilities to the visiting regions,” said Haven Tennis Club Secretary Rebecca Bird.
“We are delighted to have Tennis Victoria visiting the Wimmera and hope this will raise the profile of tennis in the region. We encourage all tennis lovers to attend and watch the junior players in action.”
Regional Team Events are held across Victoria each year for teams from both metropolitan associations and from our 11 country regions. These prestigious team events showcase emerging junior talent and provide players with the opportunity to represent their region in a team environment.
The event has some sentimental value for the club, with John Fitzgerald himself officially opening the club’s new courts in 2013 during the Wimmera Week of Tennis event.
“Tennis Victoria is pleased to support this high quality event in the Wimmera Region and expect the host region to perform well on their home courts,” said Tennis Victoria Tournaments and Events Manager Andrew Reynolds.
Nine teams will compete including defending champions Barwon.
The 2016 John Fitzgerald Cup will run from 15-16 October.
