In Victoria, women’s participation in sport and active recreation is on the rise.
However, a recent Victorian Government backed Women and Girls in Sport and Active Recreation Inquiry found that girls and women participated less than their male counterparts and were still under-represented in leadership roles in a sports sector that is still predominantly male-centric and dominated.
The new Change Our Game campaign and website showcases the success of work already underway to level the playing field for women, promote female role models, provide a hub for resources and information and encourage the sport and recreation sector to challenge gender stereotypes and help women and girls become leaders.
Each month, the Wimmera Regional Sports Assembly will be launching a Hero of the Month campaign to recognise and empower local women in sport as well as provide sports heroes for female youth athletes to look up to.
