WIMMERA Regional Sports Assembly and Wimmera Health Care Group are partnering up and have established a community sports equipment library.

All of the equipment can be borrowed for free by anyone in the community, including sporting clubs, individuals, families or groups.

The library is located at the Wimmera Regional Sports Assembly office at 17 McLachlan Street, Horsham.

Equipment will be available to hire from Monday, June 27 at 1pm.

There will be a free sausage sizzle on the same day from 1pm to 2pm to launch the library to the community along with giveaways.

A range of equipment will be available for all different sporting needs, such as footballs, soccer balls, juggling balls, cricket sets, fitness equipment and hula hoops, to name a few.

Wimmera Health Care Group representative Janine Harfield said the sport library had been on the agenda for several years.

“Now the time is right,” she said.

“We have been aware of similar set ups around Australia and think it will help get people active that may not have the resources to purchase sports equipment of their own.”

The sports library will be open from 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday.

Clients must be 18 or over to register, although parents can register and put their children down as someone who can borrow the equipment.

“It is open to anyone,” Mrs Harfield said.

“Hopefully it will grow over the next couple of years. The guys at Wimmera Regional Sports Assembly have been fantastic to work with.”

Wimmera Regional Sports Assembly representative Matthew Friedlieb said the initiative would bring great togetherness.

“We were approached by Wimmera Health Care Group to be partners after they received the grant from Primary Care Partnerships,” he said.

“They are looking to promote a healthy lifestyle like us. It also adds a community aspect. It is perfect for businesses hosting events like work parties.”

Equipment hire has a limit of two weeks before items must be returned. A reminder is sent out via text message in the days before.
