What We Do

What We Do

At Wimmera Regional Sports Assembly, we support any sport, any club, any activity — we’re open to all sports and everyone who wants to get involved in being active.

How We Help

We can help in two two key areas:

  • Activations & Events – We run activations and events that get more people involved, playing, and participating in sport and recreation.

  • Club Support & Guidance – We help volunteers, committees, and clubs with the behind-the-scenes requirements of running a successful and inclusive club or organisation.

Our Focus

Our mission is to create active participation opportunities in sport and recreation for all people across the Wimmera.
We prioritise support for:

  • Juniors

  • Women and Girls

  • People of All Abilities

  • Multicultural Communities

  • First Nations Peoples

Our Key Programs

Club and Association Support

We help local sports clubs and associations stay strong, inclusive, and well-run. Backed by Sport and Recreation Victoria, our team offers hands-on support with grant writing, governance, child safety, constitutions, and volunteer retention. We’re here to help clubs deliver great experiences for their players, members and families—and to stay on top of the behind-the-scenes work that keeps everything ticking.

Active Communities

With funding from VicHealth, we work with local partners to create neighbourhoods and community spaces where children, young people, and families feel safe, supported, and motivated to be active. By focusing on inclusion, accessibility, and social connection, we use sport, recreation, and play as tools to strengthen community ties and improve physical and mental wellbeing—especially in areas where barriers to participation are high.

From School to Sport

We partner with primary and secondary schools to deliver physical activity events and skill-building programs that promote physical literacy and spark interest in being active. Our goal is to bridge the gap between school-based participation and long-term community sport engagement—giving students the confidence and connections to stay active beyond the classroom.

Wimmera Whippets Football & Netball Club

Run directly by WRSA, the Wimmera Whippets are the region’s all-abilities football and netball teams, proudly competing in the FIDA Western Conference and the Regional All Abilities Netball League. In 2024, 23 footballers and 12 netballers represented the Whippets across Victoria.

The Whippets provide structured, competitive sport in a supportive and inclusive environment for people with disabilities. It’s about more than scoring goals—it’s about building confidence, staying active, and fostering genuine belonging through team sport.

Grampians Giants Football Club

Run directly by WRSA, the Grampians Giants are an all-abilities football team based in Stawell and Ararat, proudly competing in the FIDA Western Conference. In 2024, 22 players represented the Giants across Victoria.

The Giants offer a supportive, inclusive environment where people with disabilities can stay active, develop football skills, and connect through sport. More than just a game, the Giants provide a sense of belonging and community that extends beyond the field.

Wimmera Sports Star of the Year Awards

Our annual celebration of the region’s top athletes, coaches, volunteers, and clubs. This event recognises standout performances, quiet dedication, and the spirit that drives local sport. From record-breaking achievements to tireless behind-the-scenes efforts, the Sports Star Awards shine a light on those who make Wimmera sport great.

Wimmera Sports Foundation

We provide direct financial support to promising local athletes and coaches to help cover the high costs of travel, training, and competition. The Foundation reduces barriers for those striving to reach the next level in their sport—ensuring talent in the Wimmera has a fair shot, no matter where they live or how far they need to go.
