First Finalist Announced for 2025 Sports Star of the Year – Georgia Foster

02 Jun 2025
The countdown to the 2025 Wimmera Sports Star of the Year Awards is officially underway, and we’re thrilled to announce the very first finalist of 2025 for the region’s most prestigious sporting honour.

Georgia Foster, a standout performer in athletics, has been selected as a finalist for the 2025 Sports Star of the Year Award. With a year already marked by determination, discipline, and excellence, Georgia has represented the Horsham Little Athletics Club and the Wimmera with distinction, earning her place among the region’s top athletes.  Georgia made history at the Australian Little Athletics Championships in Adelaide by becoming her club’s first national champion—securing gold in the U15 Girls 200 metre sprint and U15 Girls 4×100 metre relay, silver in the Swedish relay and bronze in the U15 Girls 100 metre sprint—before further cementing her legacy at the North Island Games in New Zealand, where she won three gold medals in the U15 Girls 100 metre, 200 metre, and 4×100 metre relay events.

This marks the beginning of our finalist announcements, which will continue throughout the year as we shine a light on the incredible sporting talent across our region. From junior standouts to seasoned veterans, our awards celebrate not only performance but the heart and spirit of community sport.

The grand celebration will take place in February 2026, when we honour finalists across 16 categories, culminating in the announcement of the Sports Star of the Year.

Now it’s over to you, Wimmera! If you know an athlete, coach, team, volunteer, or community initiative that deserves to be recognised, get your nominations in now. Visit https://wrsa.org.au/sports-star/ to nominate – and help us celebrate the people who make sport shine in our region.
