WRSA launches 2025–2028 Strategic Plan to strengthen community sport across the Wimmera

06 Sep 2025

Wimmera Regional Sports Assembly has officially launched its 2025–2028 Strategic Plan, setting a clear direction to help local clubs, volunteers, and communities stay active, connected, and well. The plan focuses on three pillars that guide all activity: Connect, Empower, and Transform.

Developed with input from clubs, councils, state bodies, and community partners, the plan responds to what matters most on the ground. It backs volunteers with practical support, grows participation across all ages and backgrounds, and strengthens the systems that keep community sport strong.

WRSA Chair Jeff Pekin said the plan reflects the role sport plays in regional life.

“Sport in the Wimmera is more than fixtures and finals. It is belonging, inclusion, and community pride. This plan puts local clubs and volunteers at the centre and sets a confident path for the next four years.”

Executive Officer Tony Caccaviello said the plan will help WRSA walk alongside clubs and partners.

“We will connect people with opportunities to play, empower volunteers with training and tools, and transform how we work so we can deliver more support where it counts. Our goal is simple. Every person, every club, every town has a place to participate and feel welcome.”

What the plan means for our region

  • For clubs and volunteers: targeted help with governance, compliance, child safety, grants readiness, and committee capability.

  • For participation: more inclusive programs and pathways that support women and girls, multicultural communities, First Nations people, people with disability, and families.

  • For partners and councils: stronger alignment, shared data and insights, and joined-up initiatives that lift community health and liveability.

  • For the community: more chances to be active, connect with others, and celebrate local achievement through events like the Wimmera Sports Star of the Year.
