The Wimmera Regional Sports Assembly is excited to see the Wimmera Whippets launch into the 2026 season with a new home at Horsham City Oval, giving the club a more visible, welcoming and accessible base for both football and netball.
Run directly by WRSA, the Wimmera Whippets are the region’s all-abilities football and netball club, providing structured team sport in a supportive environment for people with disabilities.
For the Whippets, the move means more than just a change of venue. It means training and competing in a facility that is easier to find, better presented, more central, and better equipped for players, families, volunteers and spectators. It gives the club a stronger public presence and creates a better experience for everyone involved. Club members have already spoken positively about being based at improved facilities, and there is real excitement about what the season ahead can bring.
The Whippets are especially excited about the opportunity to host games at City Oval this season and welcome visiting teams including the Grampians Giants and South Warrnambool Roosters, who compete alongside the Whippets in the FIDA western conference and the Warrnambool Stingers and Ballarat Bulldogs who participate in the Regional All Abilities Netball League.
Off the field, the club is also continuing to build its future. The Whippets recently called for members to join a newly formed Action Group to help shape the direction of the club, showing a clear commitment to strengthening leadership, ownership and community involvement around the program.
As the season begins, WRSA is encouraging the wider community to get behind the Whippets. Whether you are a player, family member, volunteer, supporter, or someone who knows a person who would love to be part of an inclusive team, now is a great time to get involved. The club would also love to hear from people interested in supporting the season in a coaching role across both football and netball.
Training is each Wednesday afternoon from 4:30 pm – 5:30 pm with Round 1 for both football and netball scheduled for Sunday May 3rd.
