Wimmera Regional Sports Assembly was proud to be part of Wimmera Southern Mallee Development’s Harmony Week celebration held at Horsham Town Hall on Saturday, 14 March, helping showcase how sport and active recreation can create connection, belonging and opportunity across our region’s diverse communities.
The Horsham event launched Fortnight Fest, a regional program celebrating both Harmony Week and Cultural Diversity Week across Horsham, Ararat, Stawell and Nhill. The program was led Wimmera Southern Mallee Development, and with support from local multicultural communities the day featured performances, a free multicultural lunch, market stalls, children’s activities and opportunities for people to connect with local services and community organisations.
At this year’s event, WRSA hosted a small activation space to promote sport and recreation opportunities across the region. With Table Cricket and Cornhole the space created a relaxed and welcoming way for families, children and community members to stop by, have a go and start conversations about how they can get involved in local sport.
It was also fantastic to have Badminton Horsham and Horsham Soccer Club directly involved in promoting their programs. Their presence helped turn the day from a celebration into a genuine participation opportunity, giving people direct pathways into local sport through upcoming come-and-try sessions and club activities. For WRSA, that is exactly what successful community engagement looks like: meeting people where they are, creating a welcoming first interaction, and then linking them to ongoing opportunities close to home.
