Over the past several months, WRSA has been actively supporting the growth of Pickleball in the Wimmera Region, delivering regular social sessions in Horsham and facilitating new come and try events in the towns like Horsham, Stawell, Murtoa, St. Arnaud, as well as activating in community events like the Kanamaroo Festival and the Australian Rural Leadership Program. These activities have introduced this growing, inclusive sport to all ages and have encouraged social connection, physical activity and community wellbeing. The sport has specially resonated with locals who had disengaged from their traditional sports participation and were not previously involved in recreational physical activity, offering them a renewed opportunity to stay active and build new social connections.
Pickleball has also helped activate spaces like Murtoa Hall, which was traditionally used for functions and events but has now partially transitioned into a recreational venue thanks to Pickleball sessions.
Looking ahead, we are excited to see Pickleball Horsham officially incorporated and affiliated with Pickleball Victoria, paving the way for more independent structure. WRSA is also exploring partnerships with Local councils and clubs to expand Pickleball to additional towns across the region, making it accessible and enjoyable for more residents by eliminating barriers to active recreation participation.
In September, WRSA will support Kelly Sports after school programs to introduce Pickleball to young people, boosting social activity among children. Additionally, during the recent school Holidays, WRSA collaborated with Kelly Sports Horsham to deliver Pickleball sessions, successfully introducing the sport to many children for the first time.
