In June, WRSA proudly hosted a series of Concussion Information Workshops across the Wimmera – bringing together club volunteers, coaches, and players to better understand how to recognise, respond to, and manage concussion in community sport.
The sessions, held in Stawell and Kaniva, were well attended and received positive feedback from local sporting clubs of all codes. With concussion continuing to be a major concern across grassroots sport, these workshops aimed to give communities the confidence and tools to care for their people – both on and off the field.
What was covered?
- Recognising the signs of concussion – dizziness, nausea, vomiting, memory issues
- Responding appropriately – when to remove a player from player and when to call an ambulance
- Support safe return to play following current sport guidelines
Did you know:
Mouthguards reduce concussion risk by up to 80% for contact sports.
Clubs should recommend custom-fit guards and encourage regular checks
